Yesterday, Ubisoft had a nice little conference call and chat where they announced some interesting things about upcoming games and a great bit of information about Rayman Origins.
First off, we now know that Assassins Creed 3 will be dropping on October 30th, on the Wii U. Now that doesn’t confirm that we will have the Wii U by then, all we know is that it’s coming out for the Wii U this year, and that the official release date is October 30th. We can cross our fingers though. We do know that it won’t be starring Ezio Auditore, the protagonist for the last 3 games. That’s excellent news, as I’m quite sick of him at this point.
Also for the Wii U, they announced that Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online will be a 2012 release on it. They had only talked about this game being on the PC, as a free to play online Ghost Recon experience. How that will work on the Wii U I have no idea, and we probably won’t hear any more about it until E3 or so. If you’re confused as to what I’m talking about, check out the announcement trailer from last year.
In other exciting news, Rayman Origins was actually profitable. It hasn’t yet been released for the 3DS, but given that it was released alongside a massive flood of games at a $60 price point and only sold around 50,000 copies in the US in the first month, most of us figured the gem was a one-and-done deal, and Ubisoft wouldn’t be interested in making more. Not true, which gives fans hope for a sequel or heck, even a 2D game from a different Ubisoft property. Sounds good to me!
