Fans of competitive fighting games already know that the place to be is the EVO Championship Series, and this year’s fighting game championship round will be held in July 2013. Eight games will be heading down to Las Vegas, and seven of these games are decided and set in stone. Competitors are no doubt brushing up on their skills, and getting ready to take down their opponents in mere seconds.
However, that eighth title is up for grabs. The organizers of EVO have opened up a donation page in order to help decide the final entrant for the event, and guess what’s in the lead? That beloved GameCube classic title, Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Here’s what the organizers are saying:
“We’ve set up a donation page for the each of the most popular games in our previous Facebook poll. The game whose community raises the most money to help find a cure for breast cancer will be the final game at this year’s EVO. You can help get your game there by donating yourself, or by forwarding this page to your friends and relatives.”
The sequel to the game—the Wii’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl—is also up and in the running, but apparently Melee is the preferred game of Smash Bros. enthusiasts. Currently, the fighter game Skullgirls is giving Smash Bros. the toughest run for its money, but if it just so happens that a flood of support for Smash Bros. Melee comes pouring in at zero hour… the game will make it to EVO, and plenty of cash will have been raised toward finding a cure for breast cancer.
Head over there and make a donation if you can!
