Etrian Odyssey 2 Coming to North America Soon

It’s been a few years since a new Etrian Odyssey title arrived on North American shores—and no, we’re not really counting Etrian Mystery Dungeon since it’s more of a spin-off game than the original. Atlus USA has heard the cries of fans across the continent and has made the decision to localize Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight for a release this summer. Talk about soon!

This game is an updated version of Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard, which didn’t otherwise make its way across the pond, and it will have an additional story mode added to the game. In the new story mode, players will experience the exclusive Fafnir Class, fixed adventurers, animated cutscenes, and voiced dialogue—but you’ll also have Classic Mode to choose from, which is the original game with updated graphics and design.

This is giving you essentially two complete Etrian games in one package, which makes it a rather nice bargain at the $49.99 retail price point!

For those coming new to the series, Etrian Odyssey is an old-school style dungeon crawler that doesn’t force you to spend all your time inside a claustrophobic dungeon. While you do explore mazes from first person, the environments are open and packed with monsters, quests, and everything you’d expect from a classic RPG.

Whether you’re new to the series or are among the hordes waiting for a new Etrian Odyssey in the West, this arrival is happening soon and has been billed as “one of the most approachable Etrian titles to date.” Take a look at the cutscene below to see if this is one you’ll be waiting eagerly for.

Faith likes games and books and cake and writing and Lara Croft, not necessarily in that order. She also thinks a Skylanders cartoon show is a really, REALLY good idea...
