Super Smash Bros. 3DS amiibo Update Tomorrow

Even though it was the version of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that brought amiibo awareness to the world, we can’t forget that the Wii U game was actually preceded by its 3DS counterpart. And despite the excitement of amiibo for the Wii U edition, the 3DS version has been missing out on this functionality. Until tomorrow, that is!

Tomorrow, Nintendo plans to release a free update for the 3DS that will enable amiibo support just for copies of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

The official PR email says: “A free update will also be released on February 10th for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems.” (So, yeah… what we just said.)

Are you chanting “it’s about time, Nintendo!” with other Super Smash Bros. fans, or are you just relieved it’s almost here? There will be a peripheral launching at a later date for the 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS consoles, but it’s also worth mentioning that this week is the launch of the New Nintendo 3DS… which contains NFC tech right from the get-go.

Now, the question everyone wants to know is… are your Super Smash Bros. for Wii U amiibo able to carry over their stats to the 3DS version of the game and vice versa? We’ll keep you posted.
