Mekazoo Swings onto Wii U This Year

At PAX Prime 2014, we took a look at the 2D platformer title Mekazoo, but at the time the folks working the booth didn’t have any comment regarding whether the game would ever make its way to Nintendo platforms. However, the Seattle-based The Good Mood Creators indie development studio has announced that the game will be heading to the Wii U later in 2015.

The story of the game centers around an armadillo who needs to save his animal friends and defeat the evil, invading insectoids. There are five different animals to unlock as playable characters (and hopefully the kangaroo is much easier to play now than it was in the demo…), and each have a different skill that helps them to interact with their environment.

Platforming and speed are the main focuses here, much like the old Sonic games. The gameplay and visual blend actually were very reminiscent of classic Sonic the Hedgehog and Rayman Legends.

Providing nothing has changed since seeing the demo in 2014, this is likely still the case—and that’s a good thing.

Here’s a quotation from the creative director Jarrett Slavin:

“Mekazoo is inspired by the platformer classics we spent every second with after school, like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country. We are combining all the lessons learned from those masterpieces and the innovative ideas we’ve spent decades brainstorming to deliver the game we wish existed since we were kids.”

Check out the gameplay video below! Looks like this one has seen some great improvements, making it a fantastic addition to the Wii U indie library.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
