Mario Kart 7 Preview

MarioKart 7 for the 3DS comes out on December 4th, which means that we’re getting all kinds of new info, videos and screenshots.  So clearly I had to pass them on, as I’m becoming more and more interested in the game the more I hear about it.

Probably the most interesting thing in terms of series additions is the ability to customize your kart. It originally wasn’t going to be included according to Shigeru Miyamoto, but it is and it looks great.  I will undoubtedly spend all kinds of time experimenting with all of the options.  I realize it’s not nearly as in depth as the tuning that many racing games offer, but that tuning is rarely used by people who play the games.  I’ve talked to fans of Forza and Grand Turismo that didn’t even know you could change things like tire air pressure.  This much simplified version will be used by everyone, because it’s quick and fun.  Take a look at some of the combinations you can make.

In terms of tracks, much like the DS version of MarioKart, we’re getting some new stages and some throwback stages.  Take a look at this video for the Mushroom and Shell Cups

These were the tracks in case you were wondering:

Mushroom cup
Toad Circuit
Daisy Hills
Cheap Cheap Lagoon
Shy Guy Carnival

Shell Cup
N64 Luigi Raceway
GBA Bowser Castle 1
Wii Mushroom Gorge
DS Luigi’s Mansion

And don’t think I’d forget about the Flower and Banana Cups!

These are the tracks, personally I’m glad to see coconut mall back:

Flower Cup
Wuhu Loop
Mario Circuit
Music Park
Rock Rock Mountain

Banana Cup
N64 Koopa Troopa Beach
SNES Mario Circuit 2
Wii Coconut Mall
DS Waluigi Pinball

And of course there are the Star and Leaf Cups, as well as the courses from the Battle mode

Star Cup
Piranha Slider
Wario Ship
Neo-Bowser City
Wuhu Loop 2

Leaf Cup
N64 Kalimari Desert
DS DK Pass
GCN Daisy Cruiser
Wii Maple Treeway

Battle Courses
Honey Bee House
Sherbet Rink
Wuhu Town
N64 Big Donut
GBA Battle Course 1
DS Palm Shore

Big thanks to DarKingBoo98 for compiling these videos, they make for great watching.

Most of the characters that you can drive as are ones that we’ve seen before, but we’ve got a few newcomers as well.

For those of you wondering, Dry Bones isn’t back, so hopefully that means snaking will be more difficult.  Yea, I’m looking at you, you dirty snakers.  Stop snaking so much.

Anyway, if this isn’t enough for your insatiable eyes, head on over to the official MarioKart 7 site and dig around.  I’m sure there is more to see! See you on the battlefield kart track on December 4th!
