An eagle-eyed chap over at NeoGAF has spotted a listing on GameFly for Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS. It has a release date of May 20th, 2012. Now of course you have to take retail game listings with a grain of salt, but this is the first we’ve heard about this game since a few screenshots were released last year. And at that point, it didn’t have the name Mario Tennis Open, which is the first time it’s popped up anywhere.
I also was under the impression that it was going to be a port of Mario Power Tennis on the GameCube, but this name would indicate something else entirely. Take another look at the 3DS Conference trailer if you’re still a little confused.
I’ve never been a huge Mario sports fan, but there have been a few gems I’ve really enjoyed and this just might be another one.
