The announcement of Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U was a bit of a shock for gamers who loved the first game—if you’re one of them, you may have felt a bit strange at the thought that it would be a Nintendo exclusive. You weren’t the only one. Platinum Games actually had to go ahead and publish a statement to explain that the release exclusive isn’t an attempt to snub the game’s existing fans.
And guess what? They’ve gone further with their explanation, now admitting that without Nintendo, Bayonetta 2 wouldn’t exist at all. Not even a little bit, not for other consoles.
Here’s what Platinum Games’ executive director Atsushi Inaba said to The Verge (http://www.theverge.com) at the Tokyo Game Show:
“Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes. We are not viewing this as a change of platform. We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became Wii U.”
So, without Nintendo? The game and the story would have ended with Bayonetta.
