Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard that Disney plans to launch their own Skylanders-style game called Disney Infinity this summer—and it’ll be coming to just about every platform under the sun, including Wii, Wii U, and 3DS.
At a press event recently, producer John Vignocchi revealed that new versions of the game are planned for release every year, and that figures purchased for one game will be compatible with the ongoing releases.
VideoGamer, who attended this conference and learned all the juicy details, also heard from Vignocchi that the game will be forwards and backwards compatible. Yep, that means any characters purchased for future instalments will be playable in the older games, after downloading an update.
And naturally, the game-makers will be working with Disney’s film teams, allowing the Infinity crew to gain exclusive access to movies in development that Disney would like to see tied into the game—so we can expect to see Play Sets developed for upcoming films, likely on a fairly regular basis.
Here’s what Vignocchi had to say:
“We’re actually working directly with them, so what they’re doing is giving us access to their films as they’re in development, so we’re getting such early access that that is what is allowing us to create these Play Sets where we’re expanding on their content and collaboratively working with these film-makers to create a true transmedia experience.”
