After last week’s confirmation of a new Assassin’s Creed game on the way this year—which surprised no one—we’re finally hearing details on “when” and “what”.
Possibly the most important details is “when”—and that’s happening on October 29th in North America on the Wii U (and November 1st in Europe).
Connor has been voted off the island for this instalment, with Edward Kenway as the game’s new protagonist—he was the father of Haytham Kenway from the previous game, keeping the timelines connected. Edward ditches the navy to become a pirate… and somehow gets wrapped up into the assassins vs. templars mess that’s been ongoing for centuries.
From the outset, this appears to be quite a departure for the franchise, but with promises of a Skyrim-like environment of free travel, ship upgrades and naval battle, underwater exploration, and over 50 unique locations to explore… there’s a lot to look forward to.
The developers have stated that this instalment builds on the established tenets of the previous games, which sounds great—so long as this instalment avoids the buggy mess of a game we received last year.
