Karateka Gets K.O.’d from the eShop

Sorry, Prince of Persia fans—but your dreams aren’t going to come true this time around. Last year, some retro gamers were excited to hear that an ERSB rating suggested the Wii U would be seeing a Karateka remake sometime soon—originally, a 1984 action game from Jordan Mechner, the creator of Prince of Persia.

So far, we’ve seen it appear on iOS, Steam, PSN, and Xbox Arcade… but not on the Wii U eShop. And to finally confirm what seemed to be the case, game producer Heather D’Evelyn has told nintendoeverything.com that the Wii U version was considered but “never went into development.” Currently, there are no plans to bring it to the platform either.

With plenty of small-project games that have seen good success on the Wii U recently, it’s sad to see this anticipated release disappear from gamers’ hopes. Guess retro gamers will have to sit tight and wait for something else for now.

Faith likes games and books and cake and writing and Lara Croft, not necessarily in that order. She also thinks a Skylanders cartoon show is a really, REALLY good idea...
