Nintendo Classics Coming to eShop

Part of the announcement in this week’s Nintendo Direct was that a rather significant slew of retro Nintendo titles will be heading to the Wii U and 3DS eShop in the near future.

Five titles are heading our way in North America, with the biggest and most exciting reveal possibly being Super Mario Bros. 3. This will hit both the Wii U and 3DS eShops before the end of the year (though there’s no specific release date), and will doubtless be an “instabuy” for many Nintendo fans whose NES was their lifeline during childhood.

There will also be the NES version of Donkey Kong in the 3DS eShop on August 15th (though it’s in the Wii U eShop right now as part of the Famicom 30th Anniversary celebration), and on August 29th, you’ll be able to grab the Game Boy Color platformer title Wario Land 3.

The final two retro titles are sure to appeal to sports game fans: Tecmo Bowl and Summer Carnival 92: Recca. Football and shooting, what else do you need? It’s also worth noting that the latter game was only available in Japan on the Famicom (and has been considered an extremely rare collector’s item), so hardcore fans will be sure to appreciate the chance to give this game a shot.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
