Wii’s Production Run Comes to a Close

All good things… and in this case, a great thing… must come to an end someday, and the word is out that Nintendo of Japan has announced on its official website that the Wii’s production days are at an end.

While a specific date hasn’t been given, this shouldn’t come as too much of a shock at this point in the console’s history. The Wii originally launched in December 2006 in Japan, and subsequently sold over 100 million consoles worldwide.

The Wii began the Wii Shop Channel, which gave retro gaming fans the opportunity to download classic games, along with giving us such memorable games are Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and many more.

So, hang onto that little white box, kids—it’s almost a collector’s item.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
