A few days ago, rumors were flying around teh internets in regard to something from Nintendo Germany’s Bernd Fakesch, which tied the new Smash Bros. game into the same release window as Mario Kart 8 on Wii U.
Well, apparently the internet needs to calm down and stop taking misquotes from game execs as factual statements. Nintendo has since corrected the error, sending waves of disappointment but hopefully not surprise through the Smash Bros. fan base. In a statement to IGN, they said:
“There seems to be some buzz online today about the launch date of Super Smash Bros. We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview. The original article has since been rectified and we have no further announcements to make at this time.”
Now the updated article says “next year” instead of mentioning a specific season, so we can speculate that it’ll be released later in the new year.
