Exclusive Shovel Knight Features on Wii U

You may recall our initial thoughts on the wacky, fun, upcoming title Shovel Knight back in August 2013. We had a look at the game during PAX Prime, and now Yacht Club Games is ready to reveal what they’re doing for the Wii U version of the game to make it special and different.

On the Wii U, players will be able to take advantage of the Miiverse’s features, leaving messages and advice for others in each room. Presently, the working title for this area is “Digger’s Diary.” Sean Velasco of Yacht Club Games explained this to Polygon [http://www.polygon.com/2014/2/5/5375918/shovel-knight-dev-details-miiverse-streetpass-functions]:

“The cool part is that it’s room-based. Every time there’s a room where you don’t know what to do, or if you just want some more information, you can tap on this diary. [Maybe you’ll] leave a message for other players or get a message yourself, or maybe learn a little more the same way you would trade secrets on the school ground.”

Things are just slightly different for the 3DS, with a “StreetPass Arena” (the working codename for the feature)—players will be able to record 5-second clips within a stage, and then exchange these via StreetPass. The idea is to learn from others’ experiences and adjust your own approach accordingly.

Velasco also emphasized that although Shovel Knight is a “classic-style game”, the team worked hard to utilize all the technology available to them on the systems they developed the game for. What this means, we’ll have to wait to find out!

Although the game has seen some delays in getting to us, we’re now hearing that March 31st is the goal.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
