Cult County Kickstarter Failure Sends Renegade Kid Back to the Drawing Board

Fans of downloadable titles on the 3DS are undoubtedly familiar with Renegade Kid, one of the best known download developers for the handheld. They created the well-received Mutant Mudds, with Moon Chronicles’ episodic play on the way and Treasurenauts set to storm the console in the near future.

Despite these upsides for the company, the studio’s recent Cult County Kickstarter failed miserably, reaching less than 10% of their financing goal. There are a variety of reasons that can be speculated upon as to why this happened, but regardless of the reasoning, the company is understandably disappointed.

Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham has since stated that the developer would be looking into other options for the company, perhaps returning to its roots as a 2D game developer. This probably means lights-out for Cult County in general, but it’s good news for those who are excited by the possibility of a new pixel-based 2D title from the developer.
