eSports is one of those strange gaming phenomena that brings millions of fans together across the globe each year. While we’ve certainly seen plenty of competitive gaming in the PC realm (LoL, anyone?), Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. and Pokémon events certainly have their own fair share of significant draw for their tournaments.
Nintendo hasn’t turned a blind eye to this, and as a result, one of their first eSports events of 2015 will be Apex 2015. The event runs from January 30th to February 1st, and will feature all the Super Smash Bros. games (including the latest Wii U version) and Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
The announcement was Tweeted by Team Apex today, and while we don’t yet know what this will all mean for the upcoming event (it’s not even on the event website yet), it could be anything from direct Nintendo involvement in carrying out the tourney to just providing prizes for participants. Who knows!

Keep an eye on this space as we’ll reveal more once we learned it, but it should come as no surprise that Nintendo is taking a greater interest in these types of events—after the incredible success of the E3 2014 Super Smash Bros. Invitational, we suspect there will be many more events like this in the coming year.
