Shovel Knight Getting Retail Release

It’s no secret that here at Nintendo Fire, we’re huge fans of Shovel Knight and the Yacht Club Games team behind it. It’s got to be one of the best indie games to ever make an appearance in the eShop, and it has received almost universal acclaim by virtue of sales alone—almost a quarter million copies.

Naturally, the Yacht Club Games crew wants to keep this ball rolling, so they’re ready to release a boxed edition of the game for all platforms it’s currently available on.

The physical release of Shovel Knight will cost $19.99 and be released on October 13th for the Wii U and 3DS. The first expansion, Plague of Shadows, will be packaged with the game—and anyone who has already purchased a digital copy of the game will be able to download the Plague of Shadows DLC for free before the physical copy hits shelves.

According to the developers, Plague of Shadows will get a concrete release date by the end of the month, alongside a “MEGATON announcement” regarding some exclusive content for players on Nintendo platforms.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
