Yesterday was a big day for Apple and its fans, as the company held a special event where several new and upcoming products were announced. The usual suspects took much of the focus: Two new iPhones, a larger version of the iPad… and then there was something else, a new Apple TV that will focus heavily on gaming.
The Apple TV is an updated model that will do everything we’ve seen an Apple TV do before—run apps, stream, play music and movies—but it also wants to be your go-to product for home gaming. And before you dot another i, Bob Cratchit, take a look at the remote for this television.
Yes, that’s right. It appears that Apple has taken some—ahem—“inspiration” from the Wii, Nintendo’s best-selling console of 2006. The Apple TV remote is uncannily similar to a Wii Remote, even showcasing a wrist strap and arm movement control. And if that wasn’t enough, Apple even hired Harmonix (of Rock Band fame) to develop Beat Sports, a rather obvious nod/homage/copy of Wii Sports.
Still not convinced? The Apple TV system will be getting other well-known titles like Disney Infinity 3.0 and Guitar Hero Live. Hmm.
Get ready for this to land in October.
