Linkle May Appear in Legend of Zelda’s Future

Recently it was revealed that a character named Linkle would be appearing in Hyrule Warriors Legends, and she sure got some folks fired up. Naturally, the perceived gender swap divided many—her name, her green outfit, weapons, and yellow hair—and she was unofficially branded as “female Link” by those on both sides of the debate.

We now know that this character has her own backstory and storyline, and that despite having been created for the spin-off game, producer Eiji Aonuma has stated to IGN that he sees Linkle potentially having a future in upcoming The Legend of Zelda game titles.

Here’s a little of what he had to say:

“I’m sure we will keep her in mind when thinking about future titles.

I had a chance to give feedback on Linkle during development, but the satisfying action of using a crossbow, which we developed for the spinoff title Link’s Crossbow Training, was implemented this time completely by Koei Tecmo.

It may feel a little different from other titles in the franchise, but she doesn’t feel out of place at all in the world of the Zelda games.”

It’s certainly possible that we’ll see other new characters in the 3DS entry appearing in future titles, though who remains to be seen. Either way, the choice will undoubtedly divide fans and provide plenty of fodder for online discussion forums.
