Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Arriving in Summer

Ah, what better time of year to have the apocalypse than summer? Atlus has confirmed the arrival of Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (with the subheader of the Japan release being “Final”) for only a few months from now, so fans of the series can finally get their hands on a localized version.

The game ties into the storyline events from Shin Megami Tensei IV, though reports are that players who didn’t get to experience that game can give into this one. A press release regarding the upcoming Apocalypse gave a brief overview of some of the new game’s twists to the standard franchise’s gameplay:

  • Divine Intrigue – Choose between peace or anarchy while being a pawn in the gods’ chess game.
  • Combat Partners – Hunting demons is dangerous, so count on some backup! Alongside the standard three demons, players will be able to rely on one of seven partners to help win battles.
  • Oodles of Demons – Be on your guard because Tokyo is infested with a series record 450+ demons to fight, fuse, or recruit.
  • Revamped Demon Fusion – Demons will have affinities for certain skills, so players can better plan the outcome of fusions.
  • Classic SMT Combat – Prospective Hunters will exploit weaknesses, boost attributes, and unlock skill bonuses with the returning Press Turn and Smirking systems.

The game will arrive for $49.99USD and will be available for download and hard copy. No word has come down yet on a Collector’s Edition, but we all know how Atlus likes to roll, so we imagine there’ll be news on that front soon enough.
