Pikmin 4 is in Development…Miyamoto Confirms!

Look, it’s been a long time since anyone has heard anything about Pikmin games…and for good reason! We all know that as a favorite of creator Shigeru Miyamoto, there’s no rushing this franchise, and new Pikmin games will be released when they’re good and ready and no earlier.

For example, think back to Pikmin 3, which was initially a rumor for the Wii, for the 3DS, and finally it released in HD on the Wii U. So back in 2015 when Miyamoto commented that Pikmin 4 was “very close to completion,” most fans accepted his words with some cautious optimism. And without any follow-up information since then, presumably we weren’t alone in assuming that maybe he spoke too soon—and maybe it wasn’t a high priority for either Miyamoto or Nintendo.

But recently, Game Rant asked Shigeru Miyamoto about the game, and this is what he had to say:

“Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4]. So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”

Does this mean we’re going to see Pikmin 4 as a launch title for the Nintendo NX? It’s too early to make hard speculations on this, but…we’re going to do it anyway. We’re calling launch title or at least a major release early in the console’s life cycle. Let’s see if we’re right!
