Relive the ‘80s in This Side-Scrolling Shmup

Are you longing for the heady days of neon, big hair, and classic console gaming? Look no further than Black Paradox, a synthwave-styled sci-fi shmup title heading to the Nintendo Switch from Italian indie developer Fantastico Studio.

Black Paradox is the name of the main character, a bounty hunter going after the biggest criminal organization around… in space. In keeping with the ‘80s theming, they are of course named The Hellraisers.

The game is a shoot-em-up blended with roguelike mechanics, with random generated enemies and environmental hazards, so forget memorizing the levels. You’re going to get right into it each and every time—until you meet the boss (at the end of every level) and then have a heck of a time figuring out those attack patterns.

The further you progress through Black Paradox, the more intense boss attacks will be, bringing you closer and closer to bullet hell. Of course, there are weapons and powerups and everything you love in a massively challenging, old-school title.

The game will be out on Steam at the end of this month, and coming to consoles not long afterward—the current estimate for the Nintendo Switch is sometime in September.

Here’s the features list for this title, and don’t miss the trailer at the end of this post!

– 18 deadly weapons!
– 17 handy powerups!
– 11 deadly drones, little helpers that pack a lot of punch!
– A space bending ultimate move, the “Black Paradox”, so powerful that the main character got his name from it.

– Original Synth-Wave soundtrack by the trio Inward, Hanzo & Randie

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
