Will the Piranha Plant amiibo Reignite Collector Frenzy?

Who among you is still collecting all the amiibo? If you’re an avid collector of these playable figures, you may want to start your plan of attack now for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Piranha Plant amiibo. Reports are coming in that it’s selling out fast in Japan, with pre-order stock already going “out of stock” as orders exceed supply.

And before you ask, yes—this figure isn’t even due to be released until February 15th of next year. It’s unknown whether the shortage of allotted supply for pre-orders is due to Nintendo’s underestimation of the demand or if it’s consumers who are just really, really passionate about this figure, but either way it’s enough to make us wonder if we’ll see a similar frenzy when the preorders open in North America.

Ice Climbers and King K. Rool, also set to release on February 15th, haven’t had the same issue, so we’re not sure yet if this is just a Piranha Plant demand if it something else is going on. Keep a close eye on this one if you’re a collector, though.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
