Yo-Kai Watch 4 Coming to Western Audiences

During a panel at 2019 Anime Expo, some long-awaited news was shared by Level-5—Yo-Kai Watch 4 will be released in the west on Nintendo Switch… eventually.

While there was no additional information on a timeline, it’s exciting for fans of the series in the west to know that the developer and publisher still remembers the large international fanbase for these titles.

A trailer was also shown during the panel, though in Japanese featuring English subtitles. According to Level-5, the fourth game includes content that requires players to have watched specific Yo-Kai Watch films in order to fully understand and experience the game content—however, at this time, not all these films are localized. Information on if or when that will happen was also not addressed.

To put the release timeline so far in context: Yo-Kai Watch 4 was released in Japan in early June 2019, while Yo-Kai Watch 3 for 3DS was released in 2016. However, that third game was only released in North America at the beginning of 2019.

Here’s hoping that western fans of the series don’t have to wait another three years for the fourth game’s localization.
