In a deal worth $7.5 billion, Microsoft has purchased ZeniMax Media, the parent company of game studio Bethesda. All of the subset studios under Bethesda are included in this purchase: Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studio, Arkane, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, Roundhouse Studios, MachineGames and ZeniMax Online Studios.
What this means is that Microsoft now owns and has added to the Xbox family such franchises as DOOM, Fallout, Dishonored, Wolfenstein and Elder Scrolls. What this means for Nintendo is… well, we’re not sure yet. And it may have no impact at all. Microsoft and Nintendo have had a good relationship lately and plenty of Xbox titles have appeared on Switch (the Ori titles, Cuphead, and so forth), so it’s entirely possible that future Bethesda games will be made available on Switch where and when appropriate.
Current Bethesda titles on Switch include DOOM and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, among others.
