Sakura Samurai coming to the 3DS

Nintendo recently released an interesting looking game on the Japan eShop for the 3DS, a kind of samurai punch-out.  It was announced today in a press release that we’ll be getting it here in North America in January, for download on the eShop.

It’s called Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, and here’s what Nintendo had to say about it:

A new game is headed to the Nintendo 3DS™ system, and it won’t be available in stores. Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword™ lets players travel to ancient Japan and guide a young warrior as he battles waves of enemy soldiers to save a princess. He must identify the enemy’s attack move, dodge it by a hair and counter-attack with his own mystical Sakura Sword to win the battle. The game launches in January.

They also let slip that this thursday we’re getting Metroid 2: Return of Samus on the eShop, the original GameBoy game from many moons ago.  So, good news all around!
