Nintendo Switch fans have been theorizing for some time that a Switch “mini” version is on the way that will offer consumers a lower-cost option of the full-sized, multi-purpose console. However, despite the circulation of these rumors worldwide, Nintendo has remained silent on the issue—as expected, given their track record when it comes to rumors.
But in a surprising change of procedure, Nintendo has not only acknowledged the rumors and reports but commented briefly on them. They made their statement during the 79th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders in Japan earlier today.
Here’s the comment they made (transcript provided by @NStyles with translation by @bk2128 via Japanese Nintendo):
“We acknowledge that there have been reports [about this]. Answering to rumours and speculations would end up stealing surprises from our customers and also be unprofitable to all of our shareholders, so we have no answer to that. As a general theory, we are always performing development of new hardware.”
While it’s not a confirmation, it’s not a denial either.
