If you had any contact with 6-12 year old boys this past holiday season (or, ahem, a certain 29-year-old female), you probably know a thing or two about Activision’s runaway hit of the year, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. Heck, if you’ve been in a Best Buy, Wal-Mart, or Microplay, you probably saw the completely-bare-but-always-there figure displays, which — according to a Best Buy employee — would get shipments of the figures in and see them all purchased by the end of the day (sometimes within a few hours).
So it’s no surprise that this franchise isn’t going to disappear anytime soon. In fact, Activision announced at the American International Toy Fair that it would be following up its smash success with a new title for Fall 2012: Skylanders Giants!
This installment will initially feature 8 new “giant” figures, though players’ existing Skylanders will be compatible with the game as well (so keep on leveling up your Drobot!). And did I mention that these new giant figures will also light up?
Of course, new toys means more money, but who cares? The game is frelling fun. So far, the new game has been announced for the Wii but not the 3DS, though the comment that it will available for “handheld and mobile devices” leads one to suspect that a 3DS appearance isn’t out of the question.
