As much as we all love DS Download Play – who doesn’t appreciate the one-card games that you can play with a pile of other people? – one of the biggest drawbacks of the feature has been the fact that you can bake brownies, do a load of laundry, watch several episodes of Dancing with the Stars, and possibly paint your house before the systems actually connect and get you playing together.
Improvements on this mean less time spent doing other tasks, and more time playing! Okay, so maybe we’re exaggerating a little bit (only one episode of Dancing with the Stars, fine), but it looks like Download Play will see the receiving DS actually storing the downloaded info on the SD card and retained, instead of wiping the info once you stop playing together.
Though it will still only be accessible when playing with someone who has the game card, it means the second time you play together, you won’t have to wait through the next ice age.
The new patent on this update shows that Nintendo is still dedicated to playability and user experience, which can only be a good thing.
