Reggie Assuages Doubts: The Miiverse Will Be a Rich, Robust Experience

We’re only a few months away from launch of the Wii U, and despite press conferences and info releases, there’s still a lot we don’t know about the online side of the Wii U… that’s despite the knowledge that it will exist, and it’s going to be “different”. Apparently even developers don’t have a clue at this point, which is a little worrisome.

But in an interview with IGN (http://ca.ign.com/articles/2012/09/24/the-difficulty-discussing-wii-u), everyone’s favourite Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime did his best to affirm that Nintendo is doing everything they can to create an amazing online experience for Wii U players. They’re taking the online aspect seriously, and Miiverse will be an integral part of the Wii U gaming experience.

Here’s a bit of what he had to say:

“Miiverse has the same challenges. Our vision for this service is unlike anything that’s ever been before it… People put it in, maybe, current terms of things that it’s most analogous to, and it’s not really what this is going to be. It’s going to be a very rich, robust part of the experience.

One of the things that we’ve found is that gamers want to talk about other gamers about the fun they have when they’re playing games. And that’s different from what you do on other social networks. We believe Miiverse will be a very compelling part of the Wii U proposition, just like Street Pass and the Street Pass Mii Plaza have become a very compelling part of the Nintendo 3DS proposition.”

Well, it’s still not solid info, but it sounds intriguing—and if it really is anything like Street Pass for the 3DS, it just may turn out to be a great online experience after all.
