Recently, publishers have been slipping an online gaming code into their packaging, in an attempt to stop gamers from purchasing titles from the pre-owned section of their favourite stores… but in a surprising move, a number of third-party publishers are pulling out of this tactic, and allowing folks to purchase and play online content on pre-owned games for the Wii U.
We don’t get it either, considering how hard publishers seem to be working to try and reduce the enormously profitable used game industry, but it’s happening. Has Nintendo stepped in and disallowed this? Or maybe they’re just trying to get as many people as they can to play these core game releases on the Wii U.
Some of the titles without online passes are Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition (even though the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions shipped with codes!), FIFA 13, Assassin’s Creed III and Mass Effect III. No redemption necessary to play the online content on used copies of these puppies, or extra game code purchasing from the publisher if you’ve bought a used copy.
