One of the most highly anticipated titles this year is Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox and SEGA, and SEGA has just confirmed that the game has “gone gold”, meaning it’s complete and all set to move into production mode. However, this news only applies to the versions on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, with the Wii U version apparently a little way off just yet.
Eurogamer had this to say about the delay:
“We asked Sega what was going on. The publisher told us the Wii U version is due out in the Wii U launch window which, technically, runs up to the end of March 2013.
Sega reiterated it had never announced the Tuesday, 12th February date for Wii U. That worldwide date only ever applied on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.”
But don’t blame Gearbox just yet—turns out they’re not the ones in charge of the Wii U version. That job went to Demiurge Studios, which might be the reason for the varied release dates, as well as the announcement some time ago that it’s “not a port” —though we have yet to learn exactly what that means.
Either way, SEGA is still saying “launch window”, which brings us up to March 2013—so here’s hoping they actually hit it, because there are plenty of gamers with itchy trigger fingers just waiting to kick some slimy alien butt.
