We’re not going to be able to whine about those slow Wii U menu load times much longer—Nintendo has finally acknowledged the elephant in the room, and announced during yesterday’s Wii U Direct presentation that there will be two Wii U system updates this year.
The updates are coming down the line in the spring and then again in the summer, with plans to improve the speed of the system experience as a whole. According to the announcement, software will launch faster, and you’ll get back to the main Wii U menu without waiting around.
These updates are also likely part of a foundation for the Wii U Virtual Console, which was discussed during the broadcast too.
