It’s true! It’s really happening! In yesterday’s Wii U Direct presentation, Nintendo confirmed the rumors—there are plans for a Wii U Virtual Console, which will launch in the spring following one of this year’s two major updates. The first games on offer will be NES and SNES games, but it will expand in future to offer other formats, such as Game Boy Advance.
And as you can on the 3DS VC, you’ll be able to use save states for these games, which are being recoded specifically for this feature. Now, if you’ve purchased a game on the Wii VC, the bad news is that you aren’t going to be able to transfer it to the Wii U VC, though Nintendo will be nice enough to offer a discount so you can purchase it a second time.
Prices for the NES and SNES games will remain the same on Wii U as they were for the Wii as well, which is good news for VC fans.
