After Nintendo’s interesting week of sales reporting—including things like revealing poor Wii U sales in some places and revised earnings statements—some gaming websites would have us all believe that Nintendo is in a heap of trouble moving forward.
While it’s true that the outlook isn’t as bright as we’d all hoped, Nintendo seems to be taking this all in stride. They’ve gone so far as to issue a press statement to reassure everyone that as of March, Nintendo’s numbers (and earnings) will see an enormous change:
“Beginning in March and continuing through the rest of the calendar year and into 2014, Nintendo will release a cavalcade of strong, fan-favorite software titles for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. New entries in the Mario Kart, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, LEGO City, Wii Fit and Pikmin franchises will help Nintendo regain momentum for Wii U.
Additionally, highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS games such as Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf have the potential to be hardware drivers and bring new audiences to the platform.”
The way Nintendo sees it, a virtual flood of games based on beloved characters and franchises for both the 3DS and the Wii U will make all the difference in terms of sales—and they may not be wrong, but at this point, only time will tell.
