WayForward has posted an official announcement on their blog to confirm the release date of the upcoming 3DS Virtual Console title Shantae.
The news announcement reflected the studio’s personality, acknowledging that there are many gamers eager to jump into this piece of nostalgia:
“This beloved bit of gaming history was previously only available in North America. Not this time! Shantae will be making appearances in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand; wherever good times are had. Unfortunately we will not be able to announce a specific release date (June 20th) at this time. Check back angrily and often at www.wayforward.com to discover Shantae’s secret release date (that’s June 20th) in the days and weeks ahead. See you on June 20th!”
Previously, this game was a limited retail release for the Game Boy Color, but the popularity of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge on DSiWare and the excitement that built for Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse on the 3DS eShop will likely mean this original title gets plenty of love and attention from eager retro gamers (and plenty of newcomers to the series!).
