A few days before its release in North America, Super Mario 3D World has become the number one best selling game on Amazon in the North American video game category (at time of writing). There have been many positive reviews for the game popping up on websites and blogs, which may be influencing purchasing decisions.
It’s an impressive feat for the new Mario title, especially consider how the game is still technically a pre-order, and that it’s competing against PS4 and Xbox One games this season.
And while it’s hard to say whether this boost in sales has sold any hardware units—as Amazon doesn’t sell the Wii U on its website directly—even before the game’s release, there’s hopeful anticipation that this could be the game that turns Nintendo’s Wii U woes around.
