Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Reveals Plenty

After months without a Nintendo Direct presentation in sight, Nintendo caught us all a bit off guard with the announcement of a Super Smash Bros. dedicated presentation—and giving us four days to get ready for it instead of the usual 24 hours.

This presentation announced the game’s release windows as well as many, many other features. The launch of the 3DS version of the game will be heading our way this summer, with the Wii U version planned to release in Winter 2014.

The games will both be available on retail store shelves and for download in the Nintendo eShop. Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s VP and General Manager said in a post-Direct presentation release that “fans have two launches to look forward to this year, and they will want to get plenty of practice with the Nintendo 3DS version so that they can be prepared for the launch of the Wii U game later in the year.”

One of the big, unexpected announcements was a new mode exclusive to the 3DS version, as well as a new playable character: fan-favorite Greninja, a Pokémon from the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
