Job Cuts at SEGA London

It was confirmed to Polygon today that Sega Europe has laid off a number of employees at the London office, though they have not specified the extent of the cuts. The company’s Sonic and mobile departments are being consolidated into Sonic of America, as part of Sega’s ongoing refocusing on their core franchises. In 2012, a number of offices throughout Australia and Europe were closed, and in 2013, the “ever-changing environment” resulted in a number of layoffs at Sega of America.

Here’s part of the press release on the redundancies:

“Sega is in the process of consolidating certain functions of the Sonic and Mobile departments within Sega of America, where the management and production for those areas of the business reside. As part of that strategy a limited number of redundancies have taken effect in our European office, based in London.”

We wish the best to those affected by the restructuring.
