Newest Harvest Moon Will Be Localized

There’s been an update on the latest Harvest Moon title, which is sure to both delight and sadden fans of the series, for a variety of reasons. The game, Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land, is going to be localized by XSeed for North American 3DS owners—but it will have to receive a new title, and will no longer be sold under the Harvest Moon series name.

The new title, Story of Seasons, will continue the beloved game style of Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, where players get to grow crops, care for animals, and build their town into a busy city. The game has a bit of a Mario crossover, as players are able to grow Fire Flowers and Super Mushrooms on the farm.

Previously, XSeed was responsible for localizing Rune Factory 4 for North America, which was very well received. The change in name for Harvest Moon is due to intellectual property rights for the name being owned by Natsume, which localized a good number of previous Harvest Moon and Rune Factory games. Why the change in developer to localize? Well, that’s another story entirely.

Harvest Moon fans may be a little miffed by the name change, but at least they can rest assured that the gameplay and heart of the series has not changed. We don’t have a release date for this one yet, but we’ll let you know when it’s announced.

Faith likes games and books and cake and writing and Lara Croft, not necessarily in that order. She also thinks a Skylanders cartoon show is a really, REALLY good idea...
