Tekken 7 Confirmed at Evo 2014

Although the announcement is preliminary and there are very few details thus far, Tekken 7 has been revealed during Evo 2014—and despite the history of the Tekken franchise and its relationship to Nintendo products, there have been a number of entries in the series on the 3DS and Wii U (Tekken 3D Prime Edition, Tekken Tag Tournament 2).

So yes, we can assume the game will hit PS4 and Xbox One, but what about Wii U?

The announcement let us know that the upcoming game will use Unreal Engine 4, with series executive producer / game director Katsuhiro Harada giving his thoughts on the game’s potential:

“With Unreal Engine 4, we could rapidly achieve visual quality expected on next-gen platform and go beyond it.

Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire.”

Knowing that Unreal Engine 4 was designed to be scalable across systems—yes, we’re talking Wii U included—it’s not unreasonable to suggest we might see this new title on Nintendo’s home console. The likelihood may also be greater these days because of Nintendo’s strong relationship with Bandai Namco, who has been working on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS.

More details will likely hit at Comic-Con, so we’ll keep you updated.
