PAX Prime 2014: Nintendo’s Big Plans

With PAX Prime just over a week away, Nintendo Fire is gearing up to present to you all the exciting games, events, and announcements for Nintendo games and indie games on Nintendo platforms. Making our lives easier this time around—unlike earlier this year, when Nintendo passed on putting in an official appearance at PAX East 2014—Nintendo is coming to the Washington State Convention Center in a big way.

Running from August 29th to September 1st in Seattle, Nintendo has a list of some high-profile titles they’re getting ready to show off. While the list may not be as long as in previous years, these are games you’ve definitely heard of and which many folks are eager to get their hands on:

3DS

  • Azure Striker Gunvolt
  • Pokémon Art Academy
  • Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Wii U

  • Bayonetta 2
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric
  • Stealth Inc. 2
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
  • Swords & Soldiers II

Apart from their main booth area, Nintendo also has plans to encourage the use of #SmashBash as a hashtag on Twitter. This will help promote them taking Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS all around Seattle to various locations, so that members of the general public get a chance to give the game a shot!

Also, if you’re in Seattle but not heading to PAX Prime, you can check out Hyrule Warriors after show hours on Saturday (Aug. 30th) at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel from 7-10pm.

If you’re heading there, be sure to suit up in your best Zelda gear—anyone cosplaying in Legend of Zelda-themed outfits get to jump to the front of the line, while anyone wearing Zelda gear in general (or a PAX Hyrule Warriors t-shirt… oh yes, we’re waiting for the details on how you can score one of those, too) get to take a photo in front of a special background, Tweet the photo, and be entered into a contest to win concept artwork from Hyrule Warriors.

Doubtless this is only a snapshot of what Nintendo has planned—and remember, there will be plenty of indie games on Nintendo consoles as well, so don’t worry if you can’t make it to PAX this year! We’ll have lots of reviews and reports in the weeks ahead.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
