It’s getting harder and harder to pin down the truth about the availability of some amiibo figures. First, we heard rumors that Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, and Villager were discontinued, but then that was followed up by Nintendo of America’s Assistant PR Manager David Young reporting that none of the figures were officially cancelled at all.
But now, the story changes. Nintendo’s statement to Wired and IGN says this:
“We will aim for certain amiibo to always be available. These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”
What does this mean? “Likely?” How vague can one be? This seems to be a plea for us to wait and see what happens, but when you’re collecting toys or searching for that one figure your kid really wants for Christmas, it isn’t much consolation at all.
If you’re getting worried, then at this point, we don’t blame you.
