PAX South: First Impressions—Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (3DS)

To our disappointment, Code Name S.T.E.A.M. was not playable at PAX South… we were really hoping to be able to bring some demo news to you, but instead we were only given the chance to watch a demo of a level and get our hands on the New Nintendo 3DS XL at the same time.

That said, it was a good opportunity to see what it would be like to play a shooter on the New Nintendo 3DS XL, and it’s not a bad thing at all.

The C-Stick is going to make a massive difference in terms of aiming and precision, and the 3D face tracking means you won’t lose sight of your target right before you fire.

As for how the game looks, the demo showed off the aesthetic and the action-packed gameplay of the upcoming title, and it’s certainly impressive. The visuals are crisp and clear, and the steampunk element seems well designed without being kitschy or gaudy.

It remains to be seen whether the game will actually play as well as it looks, but based on the short video we had a chance to watch, it definitely seems to be a game to keep an eye out for.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
