Handheld tournaments always attract a big crowd at PAX, even with the advent of smartphone games. After all, bringing a handheld is the easiest way to pass the time in lines, so why not get competitive while you’re at it? There are smartphone game tournaments included in the line-up, yes—but we’re partial to Nintendo (obviously) so we’ll be listing just those this time around.
Sign-ups for all handheld tournaments begin as soon as the doors open today. To get to the handheld lounge, when you come in the front door of the BCEC, follow the signs to get to the Queue room. However, when you reach the dance-off stage, don’t head down the escalators—just go straight, and there should be a sign indicating you’re close to reaching the handheld lounge. Don’t worry—if you just go straight, you’ll find it at the end of that hallway on the main floor.
Reminder that you must bring your own devices and games to participate in the handheld tournaments.
- 11am-1pm – Mario Tennis (3DS)
- 3pm-5pm – Mario Kart 7 (3DS)
- 9pm-10pm – Puzzle Quest 2 (DS)
It’s also worth checking at the handheld desk to see if anyone will be hosting their own unofficial tourneys—sometimes there’s a crowd that wants to play together and has open lists going.
