Bowser Hired By Nintendo of America. Yes, Really.

There’s a new Vice President of Sales around at Nintendo of America, and his name might be familiar to you.

It’s Bowser. Yes, Bowser has been hired to work at Nintendo.

Aww, wait. It’s not that Bowser, it’s Doug Bowser previously of EA, where he used to be the VP of Global Business Planning. At Nintendo, he’ll report to Scott Moffitt, the Executive VP of Sales & Marketing at NoA.

Naturally, Nintendo is having some fun with this new hire’s name, because how could you not?

Nintendo of America has hired a new Vice President to lead the United States sales organization with a name that’s well-known in the Mushroom Kingdom. Effective today, Doug Bowser (no relation to the King Koopa and Mario’s longtime nemesis) will oversee a variety of sales-related functions, including Sales, In-store Merchandising, Retail Strategy and Retail Marketing.”

And Bowser’s new boss had this to say, keeping things a little more serious:

Doug Bowser is an outstanding addition to our Nintendo team, as he brings a deep blend of both consumer package goods and video game sales experience. I know he will work tirelessly with our internal and external partners to ensure the broad Nintendo product lineup of hardware, software and accessories are strongly represented throughout U.S. retail points of distribution.”

While we’re all hoping that they hired him on name alone, apparently that would be a terrible business strategy and it’s also a relief that they didn’t. The guy has a solid record in the industry, with previous posts held at Procter & Gamble as well as EA, and in possession of a BA in Communications from the University of Utah.
