Konami Planning Future Metal Gear Title

Oh, Konami. What are you doing? First we hear that you’re done making AAA games, then we think Kojima has left—and you say he hasn’t, but now he has—and then you announce that you’re not done after all…what’s going on over there? Because the last we heard, you were shutting down your studio in LA, you know, that very studio that gave us Metal Gear Online.

We thought the Metal Gear franchise was dead. Done. An ex-franchise, if you will.

So what are we supposed to think about your recent interview with Nikkei, in which you said this when asked about the franchise:

“When we start development, a large-scale investment will become necessary.”

And this when stating that another instalment is a matter of “when” as opposed to “if.” Seriously. What are we supposed to think?

Look, Konami has said that they were committed to keeping the series alive, but to see this happening so soon is just bizarre. Konami keeps trying to insist that Hideo Kojima is “on vacation”, but with his contract officially expiring in December, we just can’t see him having any involvement in this endeavor.

What does this mean for the future of Metal Gear? Once again, we’re left scratching our collective heads in utter confusion.

Dave will tell you that he likes to play video games, this is in fact a lie. What he really likes to do is buy games, and leaving them sitting unopened on his shelf. He is a monster.
