Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut Almost Here

Shantae games have been around for quite some time, and although the hip-wiggling heroine disappeared from our collective consciousness for a little while, she has made quite the reappearance as of late. You may recall the eight-year gap between the original Shantae on Game Boy Color and its sequel, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge for DSiWare, but Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse wasn’t too far behind that—and we’re currently in a holding pattern as we wait for the fourth game!

If you’re a fan of the series, you probably also remember the remastered edition of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge that was released after the third game, which was also planned for release on the Wii U. That didn’t happen when it appeared on other platforms, much to everyone’s confusion—but WayForward never forgot, no! It’s still on the way, and WayForward confirmed this via an update on Kickstarter that the game will be heading into submission at Nintendo:

“Breaking news today for Shantae fans! Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut is moving into submissions at Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe. Now Wii U owners will be able to play the most popular Shantae game on the planet, with all of those fancy bonus features like the new Warp System, improved balancing, HD illustrations, and the infamous Magic Mode Costume!”

What does this mean when there are still folks waiting eagerly for the fourth game? Well, maybe it will sate their hunger, and maybe not. That all remains to be seen.

Faith likes games and books and cake and writing and Lara Croft, not necessarily in that order. She also thinks a Skylanders cartoon show is a really, REALLY good idea...
