PAX East 2016: Panels of Interest (Sunday)

Today’s panel lineup includes a nice selection of Nintendo-themed panels, including the Bravely Second: End Layer special panel presentation by Masashi Takahashi & John Townsend—fans of the series, do be sure to head down there early to make sure you get a spot.

The other two panels listed here are not offered Nintendo specifically, but we think they might be of interest to you the reader! This may be due to content, the list of panelists, or just general thematic ties, but as always remember that our suggestions are entirely subjective. Check out the program on your own for more!

1:00pm-2:00pm – “Who Wants to be a Nintendoaire?” (Bobcat Theatre)

Think you know all about Nintendo? Want to put it to the test? Well, come on down to Who Wants to Be a Nintendoaire, a game show where a few lucky contestants get a chance to win sweet prizes and prove that their body is ready. It’s hosted by the gang at Nintendo World Report, who have been putting together game shows in podcast form for 5 years. Get here early to have a better chance to compete.

1:00pm-2:00pm – “Continuing To Be Brave! The Development of Bravely Second: End Layer” (Dragonfly Theatre)

Join Masashi Takahashi (co-producer) and John Townsend (localization senior translator) from SQUARE ENIX as they take you behind-the-scenes of the development of the Bravely Second™: End Layer game for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Enjoy a deep dive into the game’s mechanics, art, new characters and story, as well as discussions detailing lessons learned from the development of Bravely Default and how those insights were applied to Bravely Second: End Layer.

1:30pm-2:30pm – “How Toys-To-Life Became Mainstream in 2015” (Cuttlefish Theatre)

The toys-to-life genre in the video game industry has always been seen as nothing more than niche, but in 2015, the bridge between video games and hobbyist collectors was finally completed. Thanks to the emergence of amiibo and LEGO Dimensions, it suddenly became not only mainstream to collect toys-to-life figures, but almost cool for fans of all ages, where it was a hidden passion for so many before.

Faith likes games and books and cake and writing and Lara Croft, not necessarily in that order. She also thinks a Skylanders cartoon show is a really, REALLY good idea...
